Willow Coffins
We are experts in weaving willow and our willow coffin range in our view is the most finely made and strongest on the market. Willow is tightly woven over an internal wooden frame for strength and rigidity.
This is an annual crop, harvested every year growing in sustainable willow beds. Our designs in willow have won us national acclaim with environmental awards and commendation from His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales.
Willow was sacred to Hecate, Circe, Hera and Perspehone, all deities of the underworld and so its use as a funerary plant goes back beyond record. Ancient burial mounds situated near to water were often lined with willow to guard against water erosion but also because willow was associated with warding off evil and to overcome the fear of death, for a safe passage to the after life. In Celtic Britain it was customary to plant the willow which was the tree of death and rebirth to ensure life would continue on after death.
We offer the traditional shaped willow coffin or the more organic round ended style in a large range of sizes. There are three different designs in each shape to choose from The Osier, The Moses or The Pharaoh.
